The all-new Toyota Tacoma is rated for a maximum towing capacity of up to 6,500 lbs on SR5 i-FORCE and TRD PreRunner XtraCab grades along with increased maximum payload at up to 1,709 lbs on TRD Off-Road. Maximum towing is possible due to the gas i-FORCE engine and new 8-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence, while the new i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain allows for a slightly lower tow rating of up to 6,000 lbs.

As the most powerful powertrain ever offered on a Toyota Tacoma, an available i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain pairs the 2.4L engine with a 48-HP electric motor and eight-speed transmission while working with a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery pack to produce up to 326 HP with 465 lb-ft of torque.
Multi-Terrain Select is now functional in both 4WD-High and 4WD-Low and offers adjustable settings to help control wheel spin on terrain like Mud, Dirt and Sand, while a new CRAWL Control function acts as a low-speed, off-road cruise control while maintaining one of five selectable speeds. To help make towing easier, the Tacoma adds an integrated trailer brake controller, which uses a Blind Spot Monitor to help recognize blind spots for the truck and trailer, while Trailer Back Up Guidance assists with maneuvering your trailer, and Straight Path Assist helps back up the truck and trailer in a straight line.
